After I saw a sportscenter highlight a while back, that featured BYU, that was introduced with a montage of the Washington State game weeks after it was played, I was completly sure of the big network bias. I think they're just pissed that the MWC chose to have their own network for sports rather than sign with ESPN, but that's for another time. . .
I was very suprised that someone from ESPN actually gave the cougars a chance at the BCS National Championship game. (See the last section of the link)

I don't know if ESPN is going to jump on the bandwagon seeing that we might stick around for a while or what. They are so bipolar.
agreed on bipolarness.
as with any news network, ESPN garners interest and attention by creating (create might be the wrong word...maybe fostering) controversy -- the UW game was something they could talk about...ie refereeing, etc.
the flipside to creating controversy, but also a key element of sports media is the inspirational aspect, telling the story of the underdog, etc. that's why they were jocking ECU for the first 3 weeks, and I haven't read an article on or heard them mentioned in a podcast since. they're going to latch onto whatever inspirational story there is.
byu is on both sides of this. they were involved in a 'controversial' call in the UW game, but also have the potential to bust the BCS and be an inspirational story. hence the bipolarness. at least, that's my theory.
ivan maisel seems even-handed about things, as do pat forde, mark schlabach; even mike wilbon on PTI will lobby for BYU once a week or so. we just need to keep winning, and we'll remain a point of conversation.
